Managing stock in a Simple Product (product with no variations):
Management of stock on a simple product should be done through the Inventory tab on the Edit Product screen.

Managing stock of a Variable Product:
Management of Stock of a Variable Product is done at the Variable level.
Do not use the ‘Inventory Tab’ on a variable product.
Please enter stock amounts and product prices under each of the sizes, colours etc.

Important Note:
Marking a product as ‘In stock’ without managing the stock amount, indicates that you have unlimited stock and customers can buy as many of that product as they wish. If you have limited stock, you need to tick to manage stock and enter your stock amount.
